Milestones
Since 1983 we have been stacking up our accomplishments, each building on the success of the previous years. When we stop to take a look back, it becomes quite clear that with the generous help of donors and volunteers, we have managed to make quite an impact on our students, teachers, and community! Below are milestones that are the foundation of who Impact is today. Years are fiscal, which start June 1st and end May 31st.
2010-2011
- Over 7,100 backpacks filled with basic school supplies distributed by Crayons to Calculators to BVSD and SVVSD students in need.
- Fran Ryan hired as CEO.
2009-2010
- Revenue of over $1.1MM and program impact of nearly $900K.
- 5,934 backpacks filled with basic school supplies distributed by Crayons to Calculators to BVSD and SVVSD students in need – 23% more than prior year. Western Disposal and Staples continued sponsorship was critical in meeting the needs of students.
- New web sites launched for Impact on Education and sister program, Crayons to Calculators.
- Education Matters event featured keynote speaker, Senator Michael Bennet.
2008- 2009

Executed 25th anniversary campaign including messaging and sponsorships on 30 BVSD buses, reception, “$25 for 25″ campaign and ‘contest’ that engaged 3,500+ students in creating multi-media animations using customized Kerpoof software.

Despite economic downturn, raised over $1.4mm due to front-end loaded fundraising and one-time events (e.g. anniversary bus sponsorships, Cooley Team Impact, Amgen Phase 2). Program impact grew to $1.1mm.

Continued to grow Crayons to Calculators, providing 4,812 backpacks to BVSD and St. Vrain students and through Western Disposal-led fundraising ($80k).

Began planning for increased focus on advocacy and strategic planning process in the second half of 09-10.

Supported key BVSD initiatives: community engagement by school board and School Foods project.
2007- 2008

Razzle Dazzle Beach Ball attracted 565 attendees and netted $200,000 and Frasca major gift dinner raised $125,000.

Received $188,000 from estate of former BVSD teacher, Allaire Stuart.

Grew Crayons to Calculators to $200,000, providing 3,641 BVSD students with a backpack of school supplies. Western Disposal signed on as major sponsor ($30k+ yr).

Designed 25th anniversary campaign, selling 28 BVSD school bus sponsorships and engaging supporter, Lynn Morgan in creating 25th Anniversary video.

Revenue of $1.27 and program impact of $986,000.
2006 – 2007

Established community partnerships:

Amgen to create a hands-on life sciences curriculum for 7th graders.

Twenty Ninth Street and CU/Fiske to utilize portable planetarium for presentations for 3rd and 8th grade science classes (received proceeds from 29th St opening & permanent sign).

Open World Learning (OWL) to provide after-school and summer computer program at Creekside Elementary School.

GAMES – Girls At The Museum Exploring Science 4th and 5th grade girls at the CU Museum of Natural History with hands-on activities with CU Professors.

Participated on Oversight committee for successful 3A Bond Initiative, provided $15,000 . Bond raised $296mm to update BVSD schools.

Received 3-year, $120,000 sponsorship of Crayons to Calculators from Boulder Rotary Club.

Launched a Major Gifts initiative and Frasca annual major gift dinner ($100,000) to increase giving from large donors.

Increased revenue to over $1mm, program impact to $730,000 and endowment to $737,050.
2005 – 2006

Led 3A Campaign that raised up to $7mm per year for District to replace PC’s every 4 years and continue to close achievement gap.

Began Crayons to Calculators backpack drive with other area non-profits, with Impact acting as organizer & fiduciary.

Launched “Education Matters-Business Leadership Forum” with Boulder Chamber.

Applied for and received legislative approval for “Support Education” license plate.

Moved offices out of BVSD Education Centerto 75 Manhattan Dr., Boulder, CO 80303.

Increased revenue to $863,000 and program impact to $623,000.
2004 – 2005

Re-structured “at risk” and Tech 21 programs (multi-year, multi-school projects).

Distributed $100,000 of Opportunity Funds (on basis of population of low-income students).

Formed an Advocacy advisory committee and responded to BVSD School Board to help re-shape KH Policy regarding fundraising for school personnel.

Reduced work year to 48 weeks (closed in July) and changed fiscal year to June 1- May 30.
2003 – 2004

Re-invented Razzle Dazzle to Beach Ball at Boulder Reservoir, attracting 530 attendees and netting $150,000.

Added recognition of Key Contributors at Impact Awards.

Launched board initiative to create Boulder on Board, “opoly” style real estate trading game, netting $120,000 for new Opportunity Fund to reduce economic barriers on students.

Increased revenue to $599,267 and program impact to $427,070.

Launched community-wide strategic planning initiative resulted in changed name, updated mission and re-focused programs.
2002 – 2003

Matt Patrick hired as Executive Director.

Art and Science Knowledge (ASK) Program was launched with a $60,000 gift from Michael & Michelle Elings.
2000-2001

Tech 21 grew to 8 grants totaling $76,233.

Impact on Learning program awards increased to $2,000 per recipient ($1,500 for school, $500 for recipient), was held at the Gatehouse in Lafayette and attracted 200 guests.
1999-2000

Susie Cabell hired as Executive Director.

First independent audit of financials was prepared.

Connect Program was launched to increase student/parent engagement- 19 grants awarded- totaling $7,000- before District match.

Revenue grew to $400,000 ($50,000 from Bank One to underwrite Razzle Dazzle).

Received endowment gift of $130,000 from BARA to establish the ABC Fund for Students at Risk programs.

Impact on Learning Teacher Recognition Program (Impact Awards) was started with commitment for support from Norwest/Wells Fargo (each recipient school received $1,000).

Janis Frazier hired as Executive Director to increase emphasis on fundraising and organizational viability.

First signature event benefit, precursor to Razzle Dazzle (160 people attended, held at NCAR, netted $11,000).

BVSD School Board votes to create an independent, non-profit corporation to accept gifts on behalf of the school district, The Foundation for Boulder Valley Schools was the first Colorado public education support organization.
