QUICK FACTS
Crayons to Calculators BVSD
- To help local families in financial need, Crayons to Calculators BVSD provides age-appropriate supplies and a new backpack to students facing financial hardship.
- This year Crayons to Calculators BVSD will support more than 5,000 students in the Boulder Valley School District.
- The contents of each new backpack varies by grade level, but are based on supply lists that schools provide. Supplies include headphones, crayons, markers, pencils, pens, notebooks, calculators, binders, watercolors and brushes, glue, scissors, folders and more!
- When families face difficult financial decisions or tradeoffs, such as buying groceries or school supplies, it can impact a student’s success in the classroom and in life.
- Ensuring every student has access to school supplies creates equitable classrooms across all grade-levels.
Impact on Education
- Impact on Education is an independent non-profit working alongside the Boulder Valley School District to strengthen their ability to deliver equitable education.
- Our work engages students and empowers educators to ensure students have access to the resources they need when they need them.
- We work all year to provide opportunity for BVSD students, but an important first step is ensuring every student starts the school year with the supplies they need for a strong and successful academic year.
Our annual school supply distribution, Crayons to Calculators BVSD, provides age-appropriate school supplies, headphones, and a new backpack to over 5,000 students facing financial hardship in the Boulder Valley School District.

The growth, success and challenges of Crayons to Calculators
Through the leadership of Impact on Education and dedicated individuals and organizations in our community, Crayons to Calculators has provided school supplies to over 130,000 students over the past 18 years.
8,000 students provided with essential school supplies
Every school across Boulder Valley School District is filled with students, educators and staff eagerly anticipating the school year ahead. Ensuring each student has access to school supplies creates equitable classrooms across all grade-levels.
We’re challenging the BVSD community to raise $25,000 for back-to-school supplies
Especially right now as inflation hits its highest level in four decades, times are tight for families and we know that many will struggle with back-to-school expenses for their children this fall.
